RADNOR, Pa. - The Hood College women's volleyball team fell in both ends of a non-conference tri-match at Cabrini with Penn State Berks. The Blazers fell 3-2 to the Nittany Lions before coming up short 3-0 to the Cavaliers.
Set Scores
- Penn State Berks won 16-25, 25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 15-9.
- Cabrini defeated Hood 25-12, 25-17, 25-15.

- Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, WV/Spring Mills) had 25 total kills and just four errors to lead the Blazers. She had 14 kills in the match against the Cavaliers and hit .333 for the afternoon.
- Ashley Donald (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) opened the day with 20 digs against the Nittany Lions and had 29 total over the two matches.
- Caitlin Ambruster (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights) had a season-high 21 kills against Penn St. Berks. Jackie Malitzki (Allentown, PA/Parkland) added a season-best 40 assists in the same match.
Penn State Berks 3, Hood 2
- Hood led 17-13 in the first set when back-to-back kills by Ambruster sparked a five-point run that gave the Blazers a 22-13 edge after an ace by Staci Kutzler (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill).
- In the second set, Hood used a four-point surge to take an 8-6 lead. The Nittany Lions responded with a 6-1 run to go up 12-9.
- Later in set two, Emma Elizondo (Littleton, CO/Heritage) served up three straight aces as the Blazers reclaimed the lead 16-15. PSB outscored Hood 10-4 the rest of the way to even things at one set apiece.
- The third set featured six ties or lead changes before a 9-2 run by the Nittany Lions resulted in a 21-13 lead after a Riley Kovach ace as Hood went behind two sets to one.
- Needing a win to stay alive, Hood erased a 4-2 deficit in the fourth set with a 10-2 run, powered by two kills and two blocks for Ambruster. The Blazers stretched the lead to 23-13 and went on to win, forcing the fifth set.
- Berks jumped ahead 9-2 in the decisive fifth set to secure the win.
Cabrini 3, Hood 0
- The Cavaliers opened the match with a 15-5 run and never looked back to pick up the first-set victory.
- Consecutive kills in the second set by Ofoegbu, Ainslee Barger (Poolesville, MD/Poolesville) and Anna Daley (Erie, PA/Harborcreek) erased a three-point deficit and tied the score at 7-7.
- After Hood took a 10-9 lead, the teams traded points before a 10-3 run by Cabini made it 22-14, allowing the Cavaliers to go up 2-0 in the match.
- The Blazers led 11-10 and 12-11 in the third set on kills by Shane Simms (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) before Cabrini closed the set and the match with a 14-3 run.
For the Opponents
- Jordan Thompson had 15 kills and just two errors for Penn State Berks and Julia Rathsam added 46 assists.
- For Cabrini, Hannah Dalton had a match-high 17 kills against Hood and Gina Custer recorded 21 digs.
