IJAMSVILLE, Md. - All five members of the Hood College men's golf team are in the top 12 to lead the Blazers to the first-round lead in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Championships at P.B. Dye.
On the Scorecards
- Sam Driscoll (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) and Brady Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) are tied for third after shooting matching rounds of 76. Driscoll started the back nine with three straight birdies, propelling the graduate student to a two-under 34.
- Patrick Gogarty (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) is one stroke behind Driscoll and Leonard in a tie for sixth at 77.
- Will Kujawa (Fredericksburg, Md./Massaponax) turned in a round of 78 and is in 11th place.
- Tanner Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) shot a 79 to tie for 12th in the first round.
- All five players birdied at least twice during on the first day, including three by Driscoll, Gogarty and Tanner Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur).
Leaderboards
- Hood's 307 team score is two strokes better than York (Pa.)'s opening round and puts the Blazers in the lead. The round is also tied for the fifth best in school history and is Hood's best on its home course.
- The Spartans were paced by the first-round leader Gavin Ganter, who shot a two-under 70 to lead the field by five strokes.
Notes
- The first round featured weather delay of well over an hour due to lightning, causing the final groups to battle darkness over the final few holes with the last group finishing around 8 p.m.
- P.B. Dye played as a par-72, 6,703-yard course.
