Women's volleyball outlasts Penn St. Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Hood College women's volleyball team closed the fifth set with a 6-1 run to outlast Penn St. Harrisburg on the road in non-conference women's volleyball.

The Blazers won 14-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-7. 

Inside the Box Score
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led Hood with 13 kills and five aces. She added 14 digs. 

Logan Burge (Urbana, Md./Urbana) had seven kills and zero errors in 14 attempts for a .500 evening. 

Ainslee Barger (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) dished out 22 assists, while Jackie Malitzki (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) added 14. Both players had three aces, while Malitzki tallied 12 digs. 

Anna Daley (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek) had five blocks and four aces. Ashley Donald (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) finished with 20 digs. 

How it Happened
Back-to-back kills by Daley and Olivia Todd (Charlotte, N.C./Cox Mill) gave Hood and early 4-3 lead in the first set before a 9-1 run by the Nittany Lions gave PSUH a 12-5 lead. The Blazers never got closer than four the rest of the and trailed 1-0.

Hood used a 9-2 run in the second set, including two kills by MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown), to go ahead 16-12. The Nittany Lions later rattled off six points in a row to reclaim the lead 24-21. Ofoegbu had two aces in the span of four points to make it 25-24. After PSUH tied the match, two Nittany Lion errors gave the Blazers the set.

An ace by Daley stretched Hood's third-set lead to 22-16 but the Nittany Lions again tried to mount a comeback. PSUH scored five of the next six points to pull within 23-21 but an attack error by the Nittany Lions and another ace by Ofoegbu put the Blazers head 2-1,

Harrisburg opened the fourth set with a 14-2 run and never looked back to force a fifth set. 

The Nittany Lions pulled within 9-6 in the fifth set on a kill Tiniira Tubo. Todd had two kills as the Blazers claimed the momentum, scoring six of the final seven points to take the match. 

For the Opponent
Tori Henderson and Tubo had 11 kills each for PSUH. Katie Richardson had a match-high 40 assists. Julia Choe finished with 28 digs and four aces. Brianna Ondishin Ribon recorded seven blocks, while Tubo added six.

The Blazers return to Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play on October 4 against Widener.
