WINCHESTER, Va. - The Hood College women's volleyball team overcame a one-set deficit to beat Mary Baldwin 3-1 before falling 3-0 to Gallaudet on the first night of the Shenandoah Invitational.

The Blazers came from behind to defeat MBU 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18.
The Bison defeated Hood 25-11, 25-23, 27-25.

The trio of
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills),
Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) and
Olivia Todd (Charlotte, N.C./Cox Mill) combined 37 kills and just 11 errors against the Fighting Squirrels. Ofoegbu ended the night with 22 kills and three blocks. Todd had 15 total kills, while Betley added 14.
Ainslee Barger (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) dished out 37 assists and recorded 21 digs over the two matches.
Ashley Donald (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) notched 24 digs, including 16 against MBU.
Anna Daley (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek) finished with seven blocks.
How it Happened - Mary Baldwin
Betley and Todd had two kills each during a 7-2 run that gave Hood a 14-9 lead in the first set, but the Fighting Squirrels answered with six straight points to take the lead. The teams traded leads several times with back-to-back kills by Betley and
Logan Burge (Urbana, Md./Urbana) making it 22-21. MBU scored four of the final five points, however, to take the set.
An 11-1 run in the second set gave Hood a 12-5 lead in the second set and Mary Baldwin never pulled closer than three as the Blazers tied the match at 1-1.
After claiming the third set, a 9-2 run in the fourth set gave Hood a 16-9 lead and the Blazers cruised to the decisive set win.
How it Happened - Gallaudet
Gallaudet went on a 9-1 run in the first set to turn a 6-6 score into 15-7 and never looked back to take the 1-0 lead.
Hood led 20-16 in the second set after a kill by Ofoegbu before Gallaudet used a 9-3 surge to close the set.
The Blazers rallied from down 16-9 in the third set to take a 22-21 lead. Ofoegbu and Daley combined for a block later to tie the score at 25-25 but Gallaudet regrouped and ended the match with back-to-back points..
