How it Happened
The first set of the night was a tough battle right away as both teams took turns taking the lead, but after three straight points from the Blazers gave them an 11-9 lead, the Mustangs picked up the next five to jump ahead. Despite two quick kills from Madden and
Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) got them within one, another five points in a row from Stevenson gave the home team a lead they would hold onto to put Hood in a 1-0 match hole.
The Blazers came out swinging in set two, as kills from
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) sparked a 4-0 Hood run to put them up 6-2 early. That lead would not last long though, as the Mustangs pushed back to tie the game at eight before taking the lead back, then going on an 11-3 run to put themselves in control of the set with a 21-13 advantage, closing the set out and putting Hood on the back foot with a 2-0 match lead.
Looking to avoid being swept in the third set, the Blazers were unable to find an offensive groove, falling behind 10-3 early and could not find anything to challenge Stevenson's scoring as the Mustangs quickly finished the set and the match in their favor.
For the Opponent
Rachel Lenz led the Mustangs with 13 kills.
Makala Thompson ended the evening with 23 assists.
Notes
Hood drops to 8-15 (1-4), while Stevenson improves to 12-9 (3-2).
