Women's basketball stymied at Widener

Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - A third quarter offensive outburst from Widener University was too much for the Hood College women's basketball team to overcome, as the Blazers fell 61-49 in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth matchup.

Closing out the first half the Pride managed to gain a lead of four points with a score of 26-22 at half.

In the final quarter of play Widener, started off scoring first until their run was broken up by Stanford with a made jump shot in the paint. The Blazers chipped away at the Pride's lead scoring the last three bucket of the match. With a minute left in regulation Stanford knocked down a three point jumper followed up by made freethrows by Demiah Austin (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) and Libby Kiley (Taneytown, Md./Springdale Prep) cutting the Pride's lead down to 12. Notes
When asked about what was the biggest difference between today's match up against Widener University and the last time Hood faced off against them this season Head Coach DéRonté Polite said, "Not much was different. We had a bad stretch in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference in the game. We have to find a way to remain stingy defensively when the offense is not clicking."

Hood drops to 3-17 (2-8), while Widener improves to 17-4 (7-3).
