FREDERICK, Md. –
Jackson Shepherd (Solmons, Md./Patuxent) netted a first half goal but a physical second half against Methodist ends up in a 2-1 loss in regulation.
Inside the Box Score
Jackson Shepherd's (Solmons, Md./Patuxent) first collegiate goal posted as Hood's sole goal on the afternoon in the 22nd minute.
Nick Humphries (Potomac, Md./Potomac) battled the harsh sun all day and knocked down multiple balls that traveled in the air and out of harm's way.
Kamarre Lawrence (Brandywine, Md./Saint Vincent Pallotti) provided a strong defensive effort to support goalkeepers on the day.
How it Happened
The Monarchs tried to slow down the pace by passing the ball on the defensive end, but a mishandle by a Methodist defensemen led to a footrace won by Shepherd which gave a one-on-one opportunity to expose the goalkeeper and put the Blazers up 1-0.
With difficulty trying to clear the ball at the end of the second half, Methodist forward Camden Hancox got one rebound too many and sent a strike just inside the right post to tie the match at one all.
Just after kickoff, the Blazers were able to capitalize on errant play of their opponents in their territory to provide
Anthony Polio (Germantown, MD/Northwest) an opportunity, but his shot went high of the crossbar.
In the 67th minute, a free kick fed the ball into the box in front of goal and Methodist's Cameron Lambert flew in with a header to put it over the Blazer goalie to take the lead and not look back.
