FREDERICK, Md. – A
Terrell Funchess (Taneytown, Md./Henry E. Lackey) goal in the second half of the match gave the Hood College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Immaculata University to finish out non-conference play for the season Tuesday night.
Inside the Box Score
Funchess had the sole goal for the Blazers.
Zeth Zambrano (Austin, Tx./Barca Residency Academy) and
Cristian Topovich (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) assisted on the goal.
Adam Labows (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) earned another shutout win in goal for the Blazers.
How it Happened
The first half featured the defensive prowess as both teams were unable to break the 0-0 deadlock despite Hood having 10 total shots at the break.
The Blazers earned a corner kick and took advantage of the opportunity, as Zambrano let it rip into the middle off the box where it found the head of Topovich who managed to nod it to Funchess and give him just enough space to fire a shot in the back of the goal to give Hood a 1-0 lead.
Shades of the first half continued for Immaculata as they were unable to get the offense rolling, and the final offensive possession for the Mighty Macs to break even ended with a shot by Cooper McKinney missing wide of the goal, as the Blazers were able to drain the rest of the clock out to earn the victory and prepare for the rest of conference play.
For the Opponent
Matteo Paolillo made three saves in 73:30 of play, ultimately taking the loss.
Tyler Guise made two saves after replacing Paolillo for the final 16:30.
