Women’s volleyball tracked down by Mounties

FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College women's volleyball team could not overcome the offense of Mount Aloysius College, falling in straight sets to the non-conference foe.

Set Scores
The Mounties won 25-14, 25-21, 25-19.

Inside the Box Score
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led the team with 13 kills.

Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) finished with 24 assists.

Ofoegbu and Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) both ended the night with six digs.

How it Happened
The first set started normally for the Blazers, who found themselves down just one at 4-3. Unfortunately, an 8-1 run for the Mounties would put Hood in an insurmountable deficit, as the home team quickly fell behind 1-0 in the match.

Set two started much better for the Blazers, with kills from Madden and Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) propelling them to an early 5-3 lead. Mount Aloysius would take the next four points to take the lead, but Hood kept up with it, staying a point or two behind until tying the set at 20-20 late. The fire must have run out with Betley's tying kill though, as the Mounties took five of the next six points to take a 2-0 match lead.

Down to their last chance, the Blazers quickly fell behind 6-3 to open the third set, but gathered themselves with a 5-0 run later to turn their deficit into a 10-8 advantage. After that, the two squads would exchange points and the lead while trying to find a way to go on the necessary set-clinching run. With the scoreboard reading 20-18 for Mount Aloysius, the visiting team would quiet the All Hood, All Blue crowd with a 5-1 run and complete the 3-0 sweep.

For the Opponent
Molly Richards had the most kills with 16 and digs with 12.

Kiersten Cummings totaled 16 assists.
