Women’s volleyball falls to Bison

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hood College women's volleyball team could not come away with a win against Gallaudet University, falling in straight sets in the non-conference match.

Set Scores
The Bison won 25-10, 25-13, 25-18.

Inside the Box Score
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) had four kills in the match and nine digs in the match.

Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) finished the evening with nine assists.

How it Happened
The Blazers got off to a slow start in the opening set, falling behind 5-1 early. Unfortunately, they would not find a way to heat up in time, never scoring more than a point at a time while the Bison made their way to the set win and a 1-0 match lead.

Although set two started off similarly with Hood in a 6-1 hole, the Blazers battled back with three straight points to make it a two-point game. Although they kept up with Gallaudet and were behind just 9-6, a 7-2 run for the Bison put Hood down too much for it to come back from, falling behind 2-0 in the match.

It looked like the Blazers sparked something in between the second and third sets, racing out to a 5-1 lead with their backs against the wall. That level of lead would not last long though, as Gallaudet fired back with a 10-3 run to suddenly take an 11-8 lead. A kill from Madden and ace from Ricketts helped spark a 7-3 run of their own for a 15-14 advantage, but with the score knotted at 17-17, the Bison took eight of the next nine points to snuff out the comeback flame and complete the sweep.

For the Opponent
Brielle Worley led Gallaudet with 13 kills.

Ella Gamble ended with 30 assists.

Up Next
The Blazers return home for a non-conference match against Lancaster Bible College Thursday, September 18 at 7 p.m.
