FREDERICK, Md. – The field hockey team hosted nonconference in-state foe McDaniel and remained tied through regulation but were outlasted in overtime 2-1 at Thomas Athletic Field on Tuesday night.
Inside the Box Score
Kate Haufe (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) scored via the penalty stroke for her first goal of the season.
Grace Guy (Mechanicsburg, Md./Chopticon) made a career high 16 saves on the evening, the most in a game since 2022.
Kylie Roessler (Tewksbury, N.J./Vorhees) put two shots on goal up.
How it Happened
McDaniel struck first with four minutes to go on a penalty corner where the Green Terror took a pump fake and then to cast a shot along green grass just inside the post.
Abby Chiavetta (San Jose, Calif./Leland) flew around the turf today putting herself on the line to disrupt McDaniel one-on-ones and keep the Blazers within reach.
Haufe sent a top shelf screamer to the left of the keeper and her windmill celebration tied the score after a drought of 42 minutes.
With almost three minutes to go in regulation, Guy rejected the one-timer, two-timer, and the three-timer to outlast the final Green Terror burst of regulation.
Rosseler had scrapped all night down the sidelines and found success once more, finding
Ellie Dainton (Mays Landing, NJ./Saint Joseph Academy) for the Blazers final shot on goal that found the knee of a defender and redirected out of harm's way.
The visitor walked it off with a shot inside the arc and off the body of a defender to sneak off with the Blazer' first loss of the season in overtime.
Notes
Hood was outshot 24-9, 9-3 in the final two periods of play.
