Men’s soccer dethrones Monarchs

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A late pair of goals helped secure a win for the Hood College men's soccer team, as the Blazers defeated King's College 4-1 in the final match before conference play begins.

Inside the Box Score
James Knowlton (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana), Chino Delgado (Hyattsville, Md./Bladensburg), and Zeth Zambrano (Austin, Tx./Barca Residency Academy) all notched goals in the match.

Zambrano, Cristian Topovich (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), and Timmy Hill (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) each had an assist.

Adam Labows (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) made three saves in the win.

How it Happened
The first half started slowly with the teams mostly exchanging free kicks, but the first shot of the game from Delgado found the bottom right corner and gave Hood a 1-0 lead.

Each team got a couple shots on goal shortly after, but nothing happened until six minutes before halftime, when a Monarch shot was blocked away but found the foot of Philip Permyashkin right in front of the net to tie things up right at the half.

Both squads had a little more offense to start the second half, with each team getting a shot off just a few minutes in. King's finally had some sustained offensive pressure, but each shot on goal was blocked away by Labows to keep things tied. The match might have been tied for a while yet, but a free kick from Hood was headed by a Monarchs' defender right over his own keeper and into the net for an own goal to restore the Blazers' lead.

From then on, the Blazers kept pouring on the pressure, getting shot after shot on goal until the defense eventually broke and allowed Knowlton to find open space in the box and slot a shot into the right-side netting for a 3-1 lead. Just in case a two-goal lead with less than seven minutes was not good enough, Zambrano decided to casually curve a perfect shot into the top corner from several yards outside of the box for an insurance marker that rounded out the scoring in the match and gave Hood a 4-1 win.

For the Opponent
Permyashkin scored the Monarchs' lone goal.

Analysis
Hood outshot King's 13-12.

The Monarchs committed 19 fouls compared to just 16 against the Blazers.

King's had four corners while Hood could not get any.
