FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College men's soccer team battled back to erase a first-half deficit, but visiting Widener kept the pedal to the floor to eventually produce a 2-1 win over the Blazers in the MAC Commonwealth contest Saturday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

How it Happened
Hood generated an early attacking spark earning three corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes and creating chances through Godfroy and Pinkel. Godfroy's shot in the 22nd minute forced a save from the Widener goalkeeper that would foreshadow his later success.
The Pride broke through in the 28th minute when Max Hartke found the back of the net at the 27-minute mark, giving Widener a 1-0 advantage.
Coming out of halftime, Hood immediately pressed forward. Pinkel tested the Widener keeper in the 48th minute, and Godfroy continued to threaten the Pride defense. The persistence paid off in the 58th minute when
Aidan Wright (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) delivered a pass to Godfroy, who finished the opportunity at 57:39 to level the match at 1-1.
The deadlock was short-lived, however. Inside of 10 minutes later after Hood's equalizer, Widener regained the lead when Allieu Kamara scored at 67:17, putting the visitors back on top 2-1.
The Blazers continued to push for another equalizer down the stretch. Hood earned additional corner kicks and generated late pressure, including a shot on goal from Wright in the 89th minute that was turned away. A final corner kick with less than a minute remaining gave the Blazers one last opportunity, but Widener held on.
