No. 15 Men's Basketball drops first conference game against Albright

FREDERICK, Md. – The No. 15 Men's Basketball team had their 11-game conference winning streak snapped after losing the lead with six minutes ago and came up short in their comeback against second place Albright 104-98 in Woodsboro Bank Arena on Saturday night.

Inside the Box Score

Jevon Yarbrough (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) scores 28 while shooting 50 percent without stepping off the court. Yarbrough enters the program's 1000 career point club with his 10 points in the first half.

Jude Huseby (Frederick, Md./Urbana) scores 22 while grabbing eight boards.

Garrett Cox (Glen Allen, VA/Glen Allen) records a double double via 15 points and 12 rebounds.

How it Happened

The matchup of fire and fire between the conference's top team and second-place spoiler Albright.  Hood edged out Albright in the first half thanks to a shooting surge by Mallory and a hot-handed Huseby.

Jack Robertson (Chantilly, Va./Freedom-South Riding) checked in late in the half and provided a pair of triples and good defensive play.

In the second half Albright continued to shoot efficiently, bumping their mark to almost 56 percent. The ability to hit shots from three point land and deep inside the arc made the Hood defense play up, leaving quick cut insides vulnerable for the defense.

The Blue & Grey led by 10 halfway through the half but by until the six-minute mark the visitors tied and then took the lead.

Cox grinded out possessions with one-on-one play down low, familiar play that helped Hood down the stretch in years past.

The Lions got ahead by seven and now chose to slow down their play and chew clock. As much as the Blazers chipped away to get to a four-point deficit, Albright matched and was the first team this year to walk out of Woodsboro Bank Arena this year with a win.

"Albright played well and we didn't do enough on our end to prevent that," said head coach Chad Dickman. "Our mental and physical toughness just wasn't up to par today, and the final score showed that."

"Offensively, we cannot beat a good team when we have three assists in the second half. Just too much 1-on-1 and not enough ball movement."

"We have gotten complacent lately, so hopefully this loss was the wake up call we needed."

For the Opponent

Qadir Mitchell led all scorers 29 and hit six triples.

Phanique Dupree scores 25 and 12 points for his double double.

Analysis

Albright hits 14 threes compared to Hood's eight.

The Blazers turned the ball over 16 times compared to the Lions' eight.

Notes

Hood drops to 20-3, 11-1 in conference play and sit only one game ahead at the top of the MAC Commonwealth.

Albright improves to 14-9, 10-2 in conference with second spot in the conference on the heels of the Blazers.
