FREDERICK, Md. –
Evan Freeman was announced as Hood's track & field and cross country head coach on March 16, 2026, he will officially take the helm of the program effective June 1, 2026 Hood College Assistant Director of Athletics,
Jack Mehl announced.
His aspirations are for the student-athletes not only represent the values of the institution on a local level, but also be able to represent Hood on the national stage.
"That is something I'm really driving and striving for and I am excited for the opportunity," said Freeman. "I want to be able to make sure that we're at our absolute best anywhere we are."
When he visited campus he was told time and time again about the Hood community, and then was able to see it in action. "I felt it amongst the rest of the coaches in the department, the administration and the student athletes on the team," said Freeman.
"There's just such a strong sense of community, such a strong sense of togetherness. And that's something that really drew me to Hood."
Freeman most recently was appointed at Towson University back in August 2022 as an assistant coach of the cross country/track and field team.
His time with the Tigers experience new heights as the team won ECAC Team Championships in both Outdoor (2023) and Indoor (2025). The squad also saw 31 Top 10 program finishes and nine Coastal Athletic Conference Championship scorers including his recruit Piper Jons in 2025 winning the 200m, 400m and 4x400m while breaking conference records in both the 200m and 400m events. Freeman also coached Baara Stewart to a CAA championship in the 800m (2:07.27) and the 4x400m relay during the 2025-26 indoor season. She was the first distance runner to win a CAA championship in program history.

Freeman came to Towson after working as the assistant cross country/track and field coach at Mississippi College from June 2020-July 2022. He was responsible for programming, coaching and recruiting the women's cross country team as well as the women's mid-distance and sprints/hurdles in track. He also assisted with meet management, logistics, operations and ran the social media accounts. Freeman helped lead the Lady Choctaws to qualify for their first-ever NCAAs where they ended up placing 24
th in the nation.
Prior to this Freeman was the assistant cross country/track and field coach at Baldwin University from June 2017-May 2020. He assisted with training, recruiting and meet coordination. During his time with the Yellow Jackets won NCAAs for the first time in program history. Freeman also coached several NCAA National qualifiers and NCAA All-Americans.
Freeman graduated from Walsh University in 2017, earning his bachelor's degree in history.
