How it Happened
Both teams took a bit to find an offensive groove, exchanging points with each other for the start of the match. After Hood cut its deficit down to one at 8-7 though, Shenandoah went for a short 5-1 run to pull ahead. The Hornets were able to keep the
Blazers at bay the rest of the set, not allowing them to get two or more points back-to-back until Hood got three straight to make it a 24-17 game, but it was too late for the Blazers to attempt a comeback.
Opposite of the first set, set two saw both teams go on early runs, with Shenandoah going on a four-point run to make it 6-2 before Hood responded with four straight of its own. After a back-and-forth battle saw the squads tied 13-13, the Hornets flew ahead with a 9-2 run, and the Blazers could not respond before the home team closed out the set.
Contributions from Casas and Nugent saw Hood get out to a 6-3 lead in the third set, but five points in a row from Shenandoah put the Blazers behind once again. Hood was able to keep it close though, as kills from
Blake Catts (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen),
Sean Seely (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), and Casas had the Blazers in striking distance at 18-17. A three-point run late in the game tied things up at 21, but the Hornets managed to finish on a 4-1 run to escape a fourth set and complete the sweep.
For the Opponent
Finnegan Martin had the most kills for Shenandoah with 14.
Turner Hare finished the evening with 17 assists.
