Michael Parker is in his third season as an assistant coach at Hood College.
Parker worked exclusively with pitchers during his first two seasons. Under his tutelage, Travis Schweizer earned All-Commonwealth Conference accolades as a freshman in 2015. During the program's second season, the pitching staff shaved over a run and a half off its 2015 mark, finishing at 5.17 with a staff comprised fully of freshmen and sophomores.
Parker brings over 40 years of coaching and playing experience to the Blazers, coaching at various amateur levels in the Frederick area since 1987.
Parker, turning down an offer to play minor league baseball, played both baseball and football at Chowan from 1977-79, before competing at the Apprentice School from 1979-83. Parker also played semi-pro baseball after graduation in the Industrial League, where he was an all-star and was named the 1986 Industrial League Pitcher of the Year.
He worked as a manager at the Newport News Shipyard before entering law enforcement, retiring in 1998.
Coach Parker is married with four children, Christopher, Travis, Forrest, and Zack, and resides in Walkersville with his wife, Crisanta.
