Mickey Nelson returns to Hood College after spending two seasons as an assistant coach with the Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey program.
During her tenure at Ohio Wesleyan, Nelson worked alongside head coach Brenda Semit and helped guide the Battling Bishops to a number of program milestones. In 2023, Ohio Wesleyan posted an undefeated regular season with a 16-0 record. The program went on to capture the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship in 2024 and advance to the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. That season, the team also led Division III in shutouts per game (0.78), save percentage (.894), and fewest goals allowed (5). Two Ohio Wesleyan student-athletes were also named to the Synapse Sports All-American Team in 2023 during Nelson’s tenure.
Nelson previously served as an assistant coach at Hood from 2021 to 2023, where she helped the Blazers establish school season records for goals, assists, and shots. During her time on the coaching staff, Hood also earned its first All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth recognition in four seasons, with an athlete receiving honorable mention honors.
She is a 2021 graduate of Goucher College, where she played for 3 seasons. During her Gopher career, Nelson was a 3-time National Academic Squad selection by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association as well as a 3-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll choice. She majored in history with a concentration in secondary education. Nelson continued her education at Hood, earning a master's degree in multidisciplinary studies in education.
