Joris Van Straelen is entering his first year with the Hood Men’s Basketball program.
A native of Washington DC, Van Straelen graduated from Catholic University with a degree in Operations and Sports Management. He was the Cardinals’ student manager from 2021-2023 before being promoted to student assistant coach for the 2023-2024 season. Joris helped Catholic win two Landmark Conference regular season titles, one Landmark Conference championship, and earn a NCAA tournament berth. He assisted with scouting, recruiting, and player development.
Van Straelen has served as Director of Operations for the Capitol Hoops Summer League, the largest high school basketball summer league in the country. He was also the social media coordinator for the acclaimed DMV Live basketball event.
Coach Dickman on Van Straelen: "Joris was a perfect candidate for this position and exactly what we were looking for. He comes from a strong D3 program, he has a lot of DMV recruiting ties and connections, and he has already gained significant coaching experience at this level as a student assistant at Catholic. He was highly recommended by people that I have a lot of respect for, and we are extremely happy to have him aboard."
