Men's Basketball Pulls Out Squeaker Over Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. — The Hood College men's basketball team hung on to beat Mount Aloysius College, 80-76, on Monday night.

The Blazers, under first-year coach Tom Dickman, improve to 2-1 on the season.

After Mount Aloysius pulled within 78-76 with 10 seconds remaining, Hood took a timeout to set up a play to spring Santo Provenzano. It worked, as Provenzano beat the Mount Aloysius defense for a layup to clinch the 80-76 win.

Provenzano led all scorers with 24 points, Pete Colwell chipped in 20 points on the strength of four 3-pointers, and Dennis Tressler scored 18 points coming off the bench.

"This was a good win," said Dickman. "It was back-and-forth all night, but we hung in there."

Hood, in its first year of men's basketball, shot 43.8 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Mount Aloysius 33-28 to record its second straight win.

Tressler led Hood with eight rebounds and Brian Morris, Sean Robine and Provenzano each had five. Point guard Darnell Edmonds had eight assists and three steals.

Hood gets back into action Dec. 6 when it hosts Valley Forge Christian College in the Blazers' first-ever home men's basketball game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Governor Thomas Johnson High School.
