Gutekunst, Provenzano Power Men's Basketball Past Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa.--Sophomore Jesse Gutekunst scored a career-high 31 points and hauled in a school-record 22 rebounds and junior Santo Provenzano added 31 points on 15-of-18 shooting to power visiting Hood to a 109-89 win over Mount Aloysius Tuesday night.

Gutekunst hit 12-of-19 shots from the field and 7-of-8 attempts from the free-throw line to record his third straight double double.

His 22 boards--including 16 on the defensive end--surpassed the former school mark of 18 he set against Waynesburg last season.

Provenzano did most of his damage in the first half when he sank 12-of-13 shots and scored 25 points to help the Blazers (2-2) open a 52-39 lead at the break.

After hitting just 8-of-59 from 3-point range in its first three games of the year, Hood found its long-range touch against the Mounties (2-2), sinking 12-of-23 from behind the arc.

The Blazers drained nine 3's in the second half and led by as many as 26 in the final minutes.

Freshman Tim Abercrombie scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while junior Dennis Tressler added 15 points. Junior Darnell Edmonds dished out a game-high nine assists.

Roman Mims led Mt. Aloyius with 23 points. Sam Hanik added 20 and Justin Ohler finished with 19.

Hood returns to action Saturday at 8 p.m. when it faces Widener in the opening round of the Gallaudet University Holiday Tournament.
