Santo Provenzano led five Hood College men's basketball players in double-figures with 22 points Saturday as the Blazers closed their season with an 89-72 rout of Chestnut Hill College.
Hood, which led by as many as 33 points early in the second half, closes its season with a 12-13 record while the Griffins fall to 14-11.
Jesse Gutekunst closely followed Provenzano's total with 21 points to go along with 10 boards and a game-high three blocks. David Wilson also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dennis Tressler (12 points) and Sean Robine (11) rounded out Hood's double-digit scorers.
Chestnut Hill's Isaac Greer, who entered the game as NCAA Division III's 11th-ranked scorer-one spot behind Provenzano-finished with a team-high 21 points and backcourt-mate Shawn Bolling had 19.
The Blazers served up a strong perimeter defense, limiting the Griffins to just 8-for-34 (23.5 percent) shooting from the beyond the arc, including holding them to just 3-for-22 from long distance in the first half.
Hood also held a 47-35 advantage on the boards and shot 49.1 percent.
Wilson helped the Blazers open the game up early with seven straight points to help turn a one point lead into a 10-point advantage, 19-9, with 13:14 to go in the first half. After that, the Griffins got within less than 10 just once the rest of the way.
Hood took a 44-26 lead into the break and came out on a tear to begin the second half. With just less than five minutes gone in the second stanza, the Blazers had turned their lead into a 33-point advantage, 63-30, with a 19-4 run. During that span, Provenzano scored seven points and Tressler hit a pair of 3s.
The Blazers wrap up their second-ever season with nine home wins in 12 tries. They also lose just one senior, Mike Blackman, for next season and return 13.
