Men's Basketball Falls to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa.--Matt Whelan scored 21 points to lead four Gettysburg players in double figures as the Bullets downed Hood 72-49 Wednesday night at Bream Gym.

In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, Gettysburg (5-6) shot 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from the field in the first half to build a 38-25 lead at the break.

Whelan sparked the Bullets in the opening half by scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. The hosts also controlled the inside, outscoring the Blazers 18-8 in the paint.

Hood (4-8) pulled to within 38-27 in the opening minutes of the second half on a pair of free throws by junior Darnell Edmonds, but the Bullets scored six straight to open a 44-27 cushion. The Blazers never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Junior Santo Provenzano led Hood with 14 points, while sophomore Jesse Gutekunst added 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

The Blazers return to action Saturday when they take on Moravian in the 28th Annual Moravian Greyhound Starters Classic at 8 p.m.
