WINCHESTER, Va.--Freshman Whitney Boyer converted a corner kick
by classmate Brittany Hurt into her 10th goal of the season to lift
the visiting Hood College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over
Shenandoah University Wednesday evening. The Blazers, winners of
five of their last six, are now 6-4-1 overall while the Hornets
drop to 2-11.
On Hood's only corner kick opportunity of the contest at the
3:54 mark of the first half, Hurt launched the ball to the far
post, where Boyer headed the ball off a Hornet defender who was
standing in the net. Boyer's tally was her team-leading 10th of the
season. Freshman goalie Nina Duron registered three shots in
securing her sixth shutout of the season.
Hood returns to action Friday, Oct. 13, hosting the Mary Baldwin
College Fighting Squirrels at 4 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field. The
Blazers and Fighting Squirrels square off in an Atlantic Women's
Colleges Conference game that was rescheduled from last Friday due
to heavy rains in the area.
