Swimming Opens Season at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va.--The Hood College men's and women's swimming teams opened up the 2006-07 season by competing in a double-dual against Marymount University and Goucher College Saturday afternoon. The men's team defeated Goucher, 42-38, for Hood's first-ever Capital Athletic Conference win, but fell to Marymount, 70-22. On the women's side, the Blazers were swept by both Marymount (77-18) and Goucher (60-35).

In the men's meet, freshman Eugene Alekseyev and senior Matt Caron were both triple winners versus the Gophers. Alekseyev set a school record in the 100 free in a time of 49.96 and anchored the 400 free relay to clinch the victory for the Blazers. He also paced the field in the 50 free in a time of 23.11. Caron took top honors in the 200 free, the 200 back and was also part of the victorious 400 free relay team.

On the women's side, junior Amy Kaufman was a triple winner against Goucher in the distance events as she swept the 1000 free, the 500 free and led off the 400 medley relay squad.

The Blazers return to action Saturday, Oct. 28, at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y.
