CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.--Juniors Kristina Rendon and Courtney DeSisto
each scored second-half goals to lift the No. 2-seed Hood College
women's soccer team to the title match of the 2006 Atlantic Women's
Colleges Conference tournament Saturday with a 2-1 victory over No.
3 Chatham College. Hood improves to 10-5-2 on the season and will
face top-seeded College of Notre Dame (Md.) at 2 p.m. for the
championship.
Rendon and DeSisto scored their tallies less than three minutes
apart to propel the Blazers into the championship match for the
second straight year. Rendon's score was just her second of the
season while DeSisto was credited with her fourth goal of the year.
Freshman Nina Duron made four saves in goal but was not tested
as heavily as Cougar keeper Kristin Podboy who made 17 saves on the
day. Hood held an overwhelming edge over Chatham in the shot
department, launching 30 attempts compared to Chatham's six.
Notre Dame advanced to the title match after dispatching Wells
College, 7-0, in the first semifinal. Sunday's final will be a
rematch of the 2005 AWCC title contest which the Gators won, 4-1,
over the Blazers. Notre Dame shutout Hood, 6-0, in the regular
season meeting between the two rivals in Baltimore on Sept. 27.
