Field Hockey Falls to Wells, 1-0, in AWCC Consolation Match

AURORA, N.Y.--The Hood College field hockey team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to host Wells College Sunday in the consolation game of the 2006 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference tournament.

The third-seeded Blazers finish their season at 3-12 while No. 4 Wells notched just its second victory of the season and completes the fall at 2-13.

Despite owning an 11-1 shot advantage and having the benefit of 20 penalty corners, the Blazers were unable to find the back of the cage, coming up empty against Express goalkeeper Bethany Cereo who made nine saves.

Seven different players fired off shots for Hood, but it was Brittney Seward who capitalized on Wells' only shot attempt of the contest. With just under 25 minutes to play in the second half, Seward converted a pass from Nicki Maryjanowski that proved to be the difference as the Express exacted revenge after being shutout by the Blazers 4-0 earlier this season at Thomas Athletic Field.

Hood will return all 17 players from its 2006 roster next season.
