FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team suffered its
first Atlantic Women's College Conference loss of the season with a
3-2 setback to College of Notre Dame (Md.) Thursday at Thomas
Athletic Field.
Notre Dame (1-3, 1-0 AWCC) opened a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by
Erin Masters and Ashley Demski.
Hood (1-2, 1-1) closed to within 2-1 on an unassisted goal by
Christina Woody just under five minutes into the second half.
However, the Gators countered just over a minute later when Faith
Wassink scored the eventual game-winner off an assist from Mandy
Bathras.
The Blazers again pulled to within a goal with just over 20 minutes
remaining when Christa Lunskow scored off a penalty corner. Steph
Holmen and Brandy Noel assisted on the goal.
Ashley Saylor finished with eight saves for Hood.
The Blazers return to action Saturday when they visit Washington
& Jefferson for a non-conference contest at 1 p.m.
