TOWSON, Md.--The Hood College women's volleyball team opened its season with a 3-1 loss (27-30, 30-28, 19-30, 26-30) to host Goucher College Saturday.

The Blazers (0-1) never led in the first game of the match but managed to close to within 28-27 before the Gophers (1-0) scored the final two points to take the win.

Hood evened the match with a narrow win in game two but came up shy in the final two contests.

Junior Lindsey Nagy led the Blazers with 10 kills, 12 digs and three service aces, while freshman Leah Garland, a former standout at Francis Scott Key, added seven kills and 11 assists.

Junior Caroline Woodhams recorded six kills, six digs, 10 assists and three service aces.

Hood returns to action Sept. 9 when it visits College of Notre Dame (Md.) for an Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference tri-match. The Blazers face the host Gators at 11 a.m. and take on Chatham at 1 p.m.
