TOWSON, Md.--The Hood College women's volleyball team opened its
season with a 3-1 loss (27-30, 30-28, 19-30, 26-30) to host Goucher
College Saturday.
The Blazers (0-1) never led in the first game of the match but
managed to close to within 28-27 before the Gophers (1-0) scored
the final two points to take the win.
Hood evened the match with a narrow win in game two but came up
shy in the final two contests.
Junior Lindsey Nagy led the Blazers with 10 kills, 12 digs and
three service aces, while freshman Leah Garland, a former standout
at Francis Scott Key, added seven kills and 11 assists.
Junior Caroline Woodhams recorded six kills, six digs, 10
assists and three service aces.
Hood returns to action Sept. 9 when it visits College of Notre
Dame (Md.) for an Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference tri-match.
The Blazers face the host Gators at 11 a.m. and take on Chatham at
1 p.m.
