FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team shot 53.4
percent from the field en route to a convincing 77-54
non-conference victory over Waynesburg College Monday afternoon at
Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
The Blazers (12-3) extended their home winning streak to eight
straight, a run which dates back to last February, and improved to
4-0 all-time over the Yellow Jackets (7-6). The Blazers are a
perfect 6-0 at home this season and 28-7 all-time at Gov. Thomas
Johnson High School.
Hood led virtually the entire game. After Jeff Nero hit 2-of-3
from the line to draw the Jackets to within 14-12 with 8:44 to play
in the first half, the Blazers outscored Waynesburg 17-7 the rest
of the way and took a 31-19 lead into the break.
Waynesburg connected on just five field goals in the first half
and committed 12 first-half turnovers.
The Blazers poured it on in the second half, and the Jackets
never got closer that 15.
Sophomore Ryan Junghans led all scorers with 28 points on
11-of-15 from the field, including six three-pointers. The 5-10
guard has now drained 54 treys in his Blazer career, breaking
teammate Tim Abercrombie's single-season record for three-pointers.
Junior Jesse Gutekunst recorded his 24th career double-double with
13 points and 11 rebounds. In all, 10 Blazers got into the scoring
column in the decisive victory.
Beau Wilson paced the Jackets with 26 points and picked off
seven steals.
Hood concludes its five-game homestand Saturday against Capital
Athletic Conference opponent York College at 2 p.m. in the second
game of a doubleheader at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
