FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman Cara Jordan scored a goal and assisted
on two others in a 3-0 nonconference victory for the Hood College
women's soccer team (6-9) over the visiting Shenandoah University
Hornets (3-11) Thursday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
The Blazers, winners of five of their last six contests, have
posted a shutout in all six victories this season and improved to
4-2 at home. The Blazers also outshot the Hornets, 24-7, including
13-0 in the first half.
Freshman Katherine Rendon scored her third goal of the season in
the 15th minute to get the Blazers on the board. Jordan hooked a
corner kick into the box and Rendon headed the ball into the center
of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Blazers cashed in on another
corner kick opportunity in the 40th minute when junior Liz Rakowski
notched her first goal of the fall off another feed from Jordan.
Jordan then added a score of her own, her team-leading seventh
of the season, in the 62nd minute. She laced a blast from about 12
yards out into the right corner for a 3-0 Hood advantage.
Freshman keeper Rachelle Buhrman made one save in posting the
sixth shutout of her rookie campaign. Samantha LoPreto collected 15
saves for the Hornets in defeat.
Hood travels to first-place Salisbury University
(10-2-1, 6-1 CAC) Saturday for a 1 p.m. Capital Athletic
Conference contest.
