FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman midfielder Cara Jordan of the Hood
College women's soccer team has been selected as the Capital
Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct.
21.
This is the second time in three weeks that Jordan has
earned this distinction; her first accolade came on Oct. 8.
Jordan racked up two goals and three assists in a 2-1 week for
Hood (6-10, 2-5 CAC). The native of Smithsburg, Md., scored Hood's
first goal in the 25th minute against Penn State Harrisburg, then
hooked a cross into the box off of a corner kick to set up a score
by Courtney DeSisto in the 42nd minute.
Three days later against Shenandoah University, Jordan had a
hand in all three goals as the Blazers recorded their second
straight shutout, 3-0, over the Hornets. Jordan again launched the
ball brilliantly into the box on two corner kick opportunities,
setting up goals by Liz Rakowski and Katherine Rendon. Jordan's
team-leading seventh goal of the season came in the 62nd minute on
a 12-yard blast to the right post.
In Hood's third game last week against league-leader Salisbury,
Jordan attempted Hood's only two shots on goal in the contest.
Jordan currently leads the team and ranks fifth in the CAC in
points (19), goals (7) and assists (5).
Hood is currently in seventh place in the league standings
and wraps up the regular season this week with a home game
against conference foe Marymount University (6-8-1,
1-5-1) before traveling to regional rival Goucher College (3-11,
0-5 Landmark) Thursday. The 2007 CAC women's soccer tournament
begins Sunday. Pairings for the tournament contests will be
announced later this week.
