FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman midfielder Cara Jordan of the Hood
College women's soccer team has been chosen as the Capital Athletic
Conference Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7.
Jordan is the second Blazer women's soccer player selected for
this weekly honor this fall, joining teammate Nikki Antalffy (Sept.
24).
The native of Smithsburg, Md., tallied three goals in a 2-0 week
for Hood (4-8, 2-3 CAC). On Thursday against Villa Julie College,
Jordan became the first Hood player ever to score a goal in a CAC
game when she blasted a shot from 12 yards out which deflected off
the keeper's hands and into the net. That tally in the second half
would be all the offense the Blazers would need as they upended the
Mustangs, 1-0, for the program's first ever CAC victory.
Then two days later, Jordan netted a pair of goals in a 10-0
thrashing of another CAC rival, Gallaudet University. It was
Jordan's second multi-goal game of the year, the other coming
against Wilson College in a 9-0 triumph.
Jordan shares the team lead in goals (5) with junior Jessica
Parrish and Antalffy and leads the squad in total points with 12.
She is also tenth in the conference in points and ninth in goals.
Hood is currently riding a three-game winning streak and is in
sixth place in the league. The Blazers host the University of Mary
Washington Eagles, who are currently tied for first place at 4-1,
Tuesday at 4 p.m.
