FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team made its
Capital Athletic Conference debut Wednesday afternoon against the
visiting York College (Pa.) Spartans at Thomas Athletic Field.
Junior midfielder Crystal Parker became the first Blazer to score a
goal in CAC play but it was not enough as the Spartans came away
with the narrow 2-1 victory.
Heather Re got the visitors on the board midway through the first
half with an unassisted score from about 10 yards out. April
McFarland netted York's second tally five minutes into the second
half to stake the Spartans to a 2-0 advantage.
At the 56:15 mark of the second half, Parker took a pass from
sophomore midfielder Lauren Perzan and cranked one from 10 yards
out passed Spartan goalie Claire Rekitzke to cut the deficit in
half. That would stand as Hood's lone shot on goal on the afternoon
as the Blazers were outshot 15-1 overall.
Junior Ashley Saylor made four saves in the cage while senior
Christa Lundskow and sophomore Sarah Balukoff each came up with a
defensive save in the losing effort.
Hood will have a week off before resuming play Thursday, Sept. 20,
against Seton Hill College at Thomas Athletic Field. Game time is
set for 4:30 p.m.
