SCRANTON, Pa.--Senior Caroline Woodhams and freshman Kristina
Straub each recorded double-doubles to lead the Hood College
volleyball team (2-10) to a dramatic five-set victory over Rowan
University (21-30, 30-18, 25-30, 30-25, 15-12) Saturday in the
final match at the University of Scranton Invitational.
Hood finished the tournament with a record of 1-3 but rallied from
a 2-1 deficit against the Profs to win game four 30-25 and sealed
the hard-earned victory with a 15-12 triumph in the decisive fifth
set.
Woodhams set up 25 kills and contributed 16 digs while Straub
registered season-highs of 23 assists and 13 digs. Senior Jamie
Bussey also notched a season-high 24 digs against Rowan while
classmate Lindsey Nagy tallied double figures in kills for the
fifth straight match with a team-high 16. Senior Ashley Bryan put
down a season-high 14 kills and had three solo blocks. Freshman
Lena Bushrod reached double digits in digs (12) for the first time
this fall.
In Hood's first match of the day, the Blazers fell in three sets
to King's College (19-30, 16-30, 18-30). Nagy finished with 11
kills and six digs while Kristan Hawkins added five kills and three
aces. Freshman Chelsea Weaver chipped in four kills and seven
digs.
The Blazers next travel to Catholic University Monday for a
nonconference match at 7 p.m.
