FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (3-12,
1-6 CAC) trimmed a double-figure second half deficit to two but was
unable to secure the upperhand as the visiting Villa Julie College
Mustangs (5-11, 2-5 CAC) recorded a 66-51 Capital Athletic
Conference victory Saturday.
The Blazers connected on just 4-of-24 from the field in the
first half and trailed 29-17 at halftime. A Tanisha Foster
layup at the 11:34 mark of the second half gave the Mustangs a
41-31 lead, but the Blazers reeled off seven straight points to
make it a one-possession game with 9:34 to play. Christi Valdez and
Jessica Parrish netted baskets and Allyson Lethbridge converted an
old-fashioned three-point play in the spurt.
But from there the Mustangs used an 11-0 run to regain a
13-point advantage with just under seven minutes left and the
Blazers got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Boyer paced the Blazers with 12 points, three rebounds, three
assists and five steals. Sara Wastler finished with 11 points and
five boards while Jen Willison tallied 10 points and six rebounds.
Foster led all scorers with 18 points and was one assist shy of
a triple-double with 14 rebounds and nine assists.
The Blazers return to action Wednesday at CAC foe Salisbury
University at 5:30 p.m.
