FREDERICKSBURG, Va.--Freshman Carlie Colella of the Hood College
women's soccer team (10-7-1, 3-5 CAC) notched her 10th goal of the
season Wednesday in a 4-1 setback to the University of Mary
Washington Eagles (8-5-5, 4-1-3 CAC) in a Capital Athletic
Conference game.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles got on the board just
2:32 into the second stanza when Marianne Dubinsky fired one past
Hood keeper Rachelle Buhrman. Then less than three minutes later,
Lauren Harkness scored an unassisted tally for UMW. Colella's score
came in the 58th minute to cut the deficit in half. But the Eagles
tacked on two more scores in the final 10 minutes to capture the
victory.
Buhrman made six saves in the net for the Blazers in defeat.
The Blazers next travel to Stevenson University Saturday for a
CAC quarterfinal matchup at 1 p.m. Hood will look to avenge a 2-0
setback to the Mustangs from back in October and earn its
first-ever CAC tournament victory.
