FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (1-13, 0-6 CAC)
dropped a 3-0 decision (14-25, 10-25, 4-25) to the visiting
Gallaudet University Bison (9-13, 3-3 CAC) Tuesday evening in a
Capital Athletic Conference match at Gambrill Gymnasium.
Hood and Gallaudet traded points through the first several
exchanges. A pair of blocks by Katie Worthington and Kristina
Straub drew the Blazer even at 8-8. But the Bison scored the next
four points and never relinquished their lead, eventually taking
the first set 25-14.
Gallaudet outscored the Blazers 12-4 to start set number two,
forcing Hood to call timeout. Jamie Gardner tallied a pair of
kills in the set but the Bison attack was too much for Hood as
Gallaudet took a 2-0 edge by taking the set, 25-10.
In the third set, the Blazers were unable to put down any kills
and the Bison clinched the match with a 25-4 victory.
Chelsea Weaver and Gardner notched three kills apiece while
Weaver, Straub and Lena Bushrod tallied eight digs each. Leah
Garland chipped in four digs and three assists.
Hood next travels to Goucher College Thursday at 7 p.m.
