FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Tim Abercrombie netted a season-high 19
points but it was not enough as the Hood College men's basketball
team (3-3, 0-1 CAC) fell to the visiting York College Spartans
(3-4, 1-0 CAC), 80-68, in the Capital Athletic Conference opener
for both schools Wednesday at Frederick Community College.
The first half saw four ties and five lead changes before the
Spartans snapped a 28-28 tie with a 9-0 run to assume a 37-28 lead
with 4:30 to go in the half. Hood was unable to recover before
halftime and trailed 50-39 at the break.
York shot 60 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes,
hitting 21-of-35 from the field.
The Spartans never trailed in the second half, though the
Blazers did close to within five, 67-62, with 4:19 to play in
regulation following an Abercrombie layup. But York closed the half
by sinking 5-of-6 from the foul line to clinch the victory.
Abercrombie connected on 6-of-16 from the field and 5-of-6 from
the stripe in addition to dishing five assists. Ryan Junghans
finished with 11 points while Jeff Willison and Tyler Snoots added
