FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Katherine Rendon scored her first goal
of the season and the fourth of her career but the Hood College
women's soccer team (0-2) dropped a 2-1 decision to McDaniel
College (1-1) in the consolation game of the Kim Servedio
Tournament Sunday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
After McDaniel took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Rachel
McCallum in the sixth minute of the contest, Rendon booted in the
equalizer off a corner kick from freshman Carlie Colella less than
five minutes into the second half. But McCallum struck again with
just over 28 minutes remaining in the game which proved to be the
game-winner. Brittany Baer assisted on both of McCallum's scores
and the day to lift McDaniel to a third-place finish in the
tournament.
Rachelle Buhrman and Kirsten Cacciola split time in the net for
the second straight game. Buhrman faced just two shots in the first
half while Cacciola turned away two of the six shots she faced in
the second stanza.
Mississippi College defeated King's College, 2-0, in the
championship game. Anna Clark netted both goals for the Choctaws,
who outshot the Lady Monarchs 29-2 on the afternoon.
The Blazers hit the road for the first time Wednesday traveling
to Capital Athletic Conference foe York College (Pa.) for a 4 p.m.
tilt.
