WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Hood College volleyball team (0-6)
suffered a pair of defeats at the hands of the Catholic University
Cardinals, 3-1 (14-25, 26-24, 18-25, 13-25), and the Messiah
College Falcons, 3-0 (8-25, 24-26, 15-25), Saturday in a tri-match
hosted by Catholic University.
In the first match against the Cardinals, Jamie Gardner, Chelsea
Weaver, Ashley Burns and Kristina Straub all struck for four kills
apiece while Kristan Hawkins contributed three. Weaver also paced
the defense with 12 digs while Straub added nine assists, seven
digs and a pair of blocks. Jillian Jones notched a season-high
eight digs for the Blazers.
Then in the second match with the Falcons, the offense was keyed
by the same foursome as the first match, as Gardner, Weaver, Burns
and Straub all notched three kills. Burns also set up seven kills
and had eight digs, a season-high for her. Bailey Runkles finished
with seven digs against the Falcons.
Hood returns to Gambrill Gymnasium Tuesday hosting Penn State
University-Harrisburg for a 7 p.m. nonconference match.
