FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Brandy Noel and freshman Maria Smith
scored two goals apiece to power the Hood College field hockey team
(1-2) to a 4-0 victory over the College of Notre Dame (Md.) Gators
(0-3) Saturday in a nonconference game at Thomas Athletic Field.
Smith notched the first score of her Blazer career 11 minutes
into the contest off a pass from Noel to give Hood the early 1-0
advantage.
The Blazers broke the game open in the second half with a
three-goal spurt in a span of 10 minutes. Noel scored back-to-back
unassisted goals less than eight minutes apart and Smith added her
second tally in the 64th minute to round out the scoring.
Senior Jen Lacy turned away all six shots she faced in 63:31 of
action while Anne Marie Hantman patrolled the cage for the final
6:29 to complete the shutout, Hood's first since a 1-0 overtime
blanking of Wilson College on Sept. 24, 2007.
The Blazers return to action Saturday, Sept. 20, at Cedar Crest
College in Allentown, Pa., for a 1 p.m. nonconference matchup.
