CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.--The Hood College field hockey team (1-5)
dropped a 2-1 decision to the Wilson College Phoenix (3-6) on
penalty strokes Monday afternoon.
Wilson's Katelyn Alleman notched her first goal of the season
less than 13 minutes into the contest off an assist from Jami
DeVanie. But Hood's Lauren Perzan put one past Nikola Grafnetterova
in the 62nd minute to knot the score at 1-1. Hood outshot the
Phoenix, 11-8, in the second half but was unable to notch the
go-ahead goal which sent the game into overtime.
In the first seven-on-seven extra session, neither team got
off a shot, but in the second overtime the Phoenix managed to fire
seven shots, including three on goal. Hood keeper Jen Lacy
turned away all three Wilson shots on goal, which meant for the
second time in nine days, the outcome of a Hood field hockey game
would be determined by a stroke-off competition.
After Lacy rejected Wilson's first three strokes, the Phoenix
managed to cash in on their fourth chance. Hood was unable to
convert any of its five strokes and came up on the short end of a
2-1 decision.
The Blazers return to action Wednesday at Capital Athletic
Conference rival Stevenson University at 6:30 p.m.
