YORK, Pa.--Despite a valiant effort in goal from sophomore
Rachelle Buhrman, the Hood College women's soccer team (0-3, 0-1
CAC) dropped a tough 3-0 decision to the No. 16 York College (Pa.)
Spartans (2-0-1, 1-0 CAC) Wednesday in the Capital Athletic
Conference opener for both schools.
Buhrman rejected the first eight shots on goal she faced, before
Lacey Phillips notched her first goal of the game with just under
three minutes left in the first half and the Spartans took a 1-0
lead into the intermission.
After being held without a shot in the first 45 minutes, the
Blazers hung with the Spartans for most of the second half, needing
just one score to pull even. But in the 83rd minute of the second
stanza, Jill Stanley and Caitlin Allen hooked up for a pair of
goals just 44 seconds apart for the final margin.
Freshman Carlie Colella fired Hood's only shot on goal late in
the second half which was denied by Desiree Halaka. Sophomore Jenna
Burns was also credited with a shot off the mark.
Buhrman finished with 13 saves, one away from matching her
career-high. Hood was outshot 27-2 in the contest.
Hood's next home contest is slated for Saturday, Sept. 6,
against CAC rival Gallaudet University at Thomas Athletic Field.
