BETHLEHEM, Pa.--The Hood College men's basketball team (3-8)
lost to Misericordia University (7-4), 76-58, Sunday afternoon in
the consolation final of the 31st Annual Greyhound Starters Classic
hosted by Moravian College.
With the score knotted at 11-11 seven minutes into the first
half, Misericordia went on an 18-2 run over a span of 5:29 to
assume a 29-13 lead. The Cougars limited the Blazers to just three
field goals over the final 7:47 and led 39-26 at halftime.
Hood raced out of the gates in the second half, scoring the
first 10 points of the period. J'Air Brady netted seven points in
the run which drew the Blazers to within 39-36 just 3:51 in. But
the Cougars countered with a 10-0 spurt of their own and Hood got
no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Tim Abercrombie finished with a game-high 14 points, including
3-of-3 from long range, while Brady tallied 12 points, seven boards
and four steals. Jeff Willison fouled out with 10 points and
Brenden Straughn chipped in eight points and six assists. Straughn
represented Hood on the all-tournament team.
Vinny Baumunk led five Cougars in double figures with 14 points
on 7-of-10 shooting.
Hood will look to the put the skids on a seven-game losing
streak and register its first Capital Athletic Conference victory
of the season Wednesday when it returns to conference play at
Gallaudet University at 8 p.m.
