SALISBURY, Md.--The Salisbury University Sea Gulls (8-3-2, 5-1
CAC) scored a pair of goals in a span of 5:29 midway through the
second half to earn a 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference victory over
the Hood College women's soccer team (7-6-1, 2-5 CAC) Saturday
afternoon.
The Sea Gull defense stimied the Blazer attack, limiting Hood to
just two shots on the day. But the Blazers contained Salisbury as
well through the first 45 minutes and the two teams went into the
break deadlocked at 0-0.
Salisbury finally broke through when defender Erin Mooney picked
up her third tally of the fall off a feed from Christina Eury in
the 61st minute. Midfielder Danielle Crowley found the back of the
net for the first time this season when she took advantage of a
defensive miscue by the Blazers in the 66th minute.
Junior keeper Rachelle Buhrman stopped a season-high 14 shots in
defeat. Hood's lone shot on goal off the foot of senior Nikki
Antalffy was turned aside by Melissa Orgera in the fifth minute of
the game. Orgera and Samantha Kaufman combined for the shutout,
Salisbury's CAC-best eighth of the year.
Hood hits the road again Tuesday for a 4 p.m. nonconference game
at Lancaster Bible College.
