BALTIMORE, Md.--Senior Brandy Noel of the Hood College field
hockey team (4-9) registered her team-leading sixth goal of the
season with 10:30 left in the second overtime period to give the
Blazers a triumphant 3-2 nonconference victory over the College of
Notre Dame (Md.) Gators (1-13) Monday afternoon.
The Blazers put an end to their five-game slide and evened their
nonconference record at 4-4 on the season.
Noel had a hand in Hood's first goal of the day which came off
the stick of classmate Jen Graham. Noel and Graham hooked up on one
of Hood's 13 penalty corners on the afternoon; Noel dished her
third assist and Graham notched her second goal of the fall.
CND's Whitley Noel tied it up heading into halftime on a penalty
stroke. But midway through the second stanza off another corner,
Graham found junior Katelyn Bramkamp in front of the cage and the
duo put the Blazers back on top, 2-1, in the 49th minute. Bramkamp
tallied her second score of the season while Graham's assist was
her first of the fall.
But the lead was shortlived as Rachel Jones netted the equalizer
for the Gators just 31 seconds later on a scramble in front of the
cage. Hood was unable to connect on the go-ahead goal and found
itself in its fourth overtime game of the season.
The two teams combined for 11 shots in the first overtime
session but both goalies stepped up to make a combined seven saves.
In the second overtime stanza, Noel's shot on target was denied by
Gator keeper Jessica Maier. But, the ball rebounded right back to
Noel who this time found the opening she needed and connected on
the golden goal for the Blazers.
Junior Anne Marie Hantman stopped nine shots in the cage for
Hood while Maier made seven saves in defeat for CND.
Hood returns to action Wednesday hosting Capital Athletic
Conference rival St. Mary's College (Md.) at 4 p.m. at Thomas
Athletic Field.
