FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman Kristen Byers notched her second goal
of the season in the 39th minute as the Hood College women's soccer
team (7-2-1, 2-2 CAC) earned a 1-0 Capital Athletic Conference
victory over the visiting Marymount University Saints (0-9, 0-2
CAC) Saturday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
Byers was in the right place at the right time as teammate Cara
Jordan's attempt ricocheted off the left post and right to Byers,
who tapped the ball into the open net after Saint goalkeeper Gaby
Prellezo came out to try and deflect Jordan's shot. Jordan
collected her sixth assist of the season and 18th of her career as
Hood evened its CAC record at 2-2 and moved up to fifth place in
the standings.
Junior Rachelle Buhrman registered her first solo shutout of the
season, making nine saves as Hood ran its unbeaten streak to six in
a row. The Blazers also improved to 3-0 against Marymount since
joining the CAC in 2007. Additionally, the Blazers have yet to
surrender a Saint score during that span.
Hood honored seniors Nikki Antalffy, Laura Hines and Brittany
Hurt before the game. This trio has been part of 34 Hood victories
over the last four years and has a chance to become the winningest
senior class in program history this season.
The Blazers step out of conference play Tuesday to travel to
Catholic University for a 4:30 match.
