WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Catholic University Cardinals (11-1)
registered a 4-0 nonconference win over the Hood College women's
soccer team (7-3-1) Tuesday evening.
A former Capital Athletic Conference foe, Catholic posted its
eighth shutout of the fall and improved to 4-1 against its former
league rivals on the season, having defeated Wesley College,
Stevenson University and Marymount University earlier this year.
Hood also saw its 14-match nonconference unbeaten streak end at 14
(12-0-2 dating back to Aug. 31, 2008).
The Cardinals scored twice within the first 7:33 on tallies by
Helene Nicoletti and Chelsea King. Then in the 19th minute,
Courtney Orgill made it 3-0 with her team-leading 11th score of the
season.
Catholic went on to outshoot the Blazers 13-1 in the second half
but didn't find the back of the net until the 78th minute when
Diana Spadaro finished a Caitlin Conroy through ball for the final
margin.
Hood surrendered four goals for the second time this season, the
largest scoring output by a Blazer opponent this season. Sophomore
Kirsten Cacciola earned the start and made five saves while
allowing three goals in 72:16. Junior Rachelle Buhrman patrolled
the net for the final 17:44 and surrendered one goal while making a
pair of saves.
Hood looks to get back on the winning track Friday at CAC foe
Wesley College at 7 p.m. The Blazers are currently in fifth place
in the league standings with a 2-2 mark while the Wolverines occupy
the seventh spot at 1-3.
