SALISBURY, Md.--The top-seeded Salisbury University Sea Gulls
(28-4) defeated the fourth-seeded Hood College softball team
(10-22), 15-0 in five innings, in the second round of the Capital
Athletic Conference tournament Friday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls, ranked No. 19 in NCAA Division III, plated three
runs in the first inning, four in the second and eight in the third
en route to the victory.
The senior tandem of Stacey Malarkey and Meaghan O'Gara combined
to go 5-for-7 with six RBI and four runs scored to lead the
offense. Senior starter Stacy Davis tossed a three-hit shutout,
striking out seven batters along the way for the Gulls.
Ashley Lenhart, Steph Gardner and Krista Zerby all singled for
the Blazers in defeat.
Devon Markowitz earned the start, surrendering all 15 runs, only
seven earned, on 12 hits and five walks in 2.2 innings. Bridgette
Ringley came in to work the final 1.1 innings, facing just five
batters in relief.
Hood will take on sixth-seeded Stevenson University Saturday at
noon in an elimination game. The Blazers swept the regular season
series with the Mustangs, winning 10-0 in five innings and 4-3 to
complete the twinbill.
